Lewis Count Floods

(We do a lot of work with Solid State Information Design.  One of the owners, Jodi Swanson, has family in Chehalis and has sent out this information.  Please help.)

I’m sure you’re all well-aware of the floods that hit Lewis County last week but I’m not sure if you understand the complete devastation most families experienced. This catastrophe is comparable to Katrina but on a smaller scale in terms of total number of people impacted.

My sister Karri and I have friends that lost their entire homes; they literally saw them crack apart and float down the river. There are entire communities in the outlying areas where the water systems were washed away and no longer have running water. Dairy farmers lost entire herds of cattle, horses, barns and all of their farming equipment. Homes that were flooded but left standing have up to 6 feet of river mud inside; all of their belongings are a total loss. Many don’t have flood insurance because their homes were not located in flood areas. To make things just a little worse, all of the stores where they’d normally buy replacement products were flooded and most are not going to re-open (i.e. K-Mart, Yard Birds, etc). Wal-Mart is still closed which, believe it or not, is the store of choice in that area.

Volunteers are needed to help with clean up and rebuilding. Victims are in desperate need of food, water, clothing and basic household items such as toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, etc. Farmers need hay, grain and water for their animals.

I’m asking you to help. Don’t go out for just one meal this week; donate the money you would have spent on that dinner.

--You can bring donated items to me before noon on Friday, December 14th, and I’ll deliver them this weekend. I am heading down on Friday to help for the weekend.  (contact jodi@solidstateid.com for directions)

--If you’d like to make the largest impact, please give cash. Karri and I will buy gift certificates at locally-owned Darigold Farm Store and Palmer-Lumber Ace Hardware and deliver these gift certificates to people in need, allowing farmers to buy fence posts, grain, hay, farm equipment, household items, etc. You have my word that every penny will be spent this weekend on the victims

--If you’re more comfortable giving to the United Way, here is link to a site where you can donate funds (this site was set up by locally-owned Century 21 Lund Realtors; it is a legitimate site), http://lcfloodhelp.typepad.com/ or the official Lewis County United Way site at http://www.lewiscountyuw.com/, then click “Ways to Give” on the left.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Warmly,

Jodi

For a little fun! Take a look at our flash slide show of showing the Mukilteo/Clinton ferry in a storm.

Just launched! A new dynamic site and totally new look for the Mason County Sheriff's Office. You can take a quick peak at http://so.co.mason.wa.us/index.php.

We recently launched http://www.porttownsendinfo.com/. This site is a combination blog and static web site. The blogging software we are using, WordPress, allows us to have a very robust site and the software works as a CMS system. This apporach of using Blogs as a frontend and backend for web site design is gaining strength in the web design business. It works well when the site is straighforward without extensive functionality and needs frequent updates. As a designer our goal is to produce a site that is still unique and not just built around a blah stock template.

We have just given a new look to http://www.keystonewindows.com/. This was a rework of an old design with new functionality including a file upload capacity for clients. We have also made this site Contribute compliant so the client can easily and directly update the site. We find Contribute to be a very powerful and afordable CMS solution for many clients.

Please check out our recent site. http://www.conversay.com/

This site was developed in conjunction with Solid State Info Design, Jodi Swanson, Producer.

Working with Solid State Info Design, Juli Poth Jacobsen did the graphic design, Dan Pewzner the photography and Jodi Swanson was the producer. LineAngle coded the site and developed the web graphics and site functionality.

We recently launched a site for a new client in Paris. We are quite excited about this site. It has received rave reviews and, better yet, the client has secured over $20,000 in bookings in the first week.
